New Delhi: Actor Siddharth's controversial tweet on top-ranking shuttler Saina Nehwal has kicked off outrage on microblogging site Twitter. Siddharth's 'sexist' reply to Saina Nehwal's tweet on PM Narendra Modi's security breach in Punjab is not well received by the netizens.
Saina Nehwal tweeted, "No nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists."
In reply to her tweet, Siddharth posted, "Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. Folded hands. Shame on you Rihanna."
Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed Siddharth and National Commission for Women (NCW) chief writes to DGP Maharashtra to take action against the actor. NCW has also written to DGP Maharashtra "to immediately investigate the matter and register FIR."
National Commission for Women chairperson writes to Twitter India "to immediately block actor Siddharth's tweet on shuttler Saina Nehwal, calls it "misogynist and outrageous." SHe said in tweet, "This man needs a lesson or two. @TwitterIndia why this person's account still exists?..taking it up with Concerned police."
The actor later said, "Nothing disrespectful was intended, reading otherwise is unfair. Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period."
