Southern states Vice Chancellors' workshop evaluates NEP's implementation, quality, & future-readiness
Prof. B. Thimme Gowda, Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, in his inaugural speech, said, it was important to bridge the gap between education and employment to strengthen higher education.
Bengaluru: India will lead the World in another 20 years with the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP), which will ensure political, economic and social development, said Prof. Venugopal K.R. Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University. He was addressing the Vice Chancellors at Southern states Vice Chancellors' meet, organized by Bangalore University and NAAC, Bangalore.
He further said that to improve the present 20% employability, NEP has stressed upon digital learning and skill enhancement courses. With this, every student will be empowered to earn their livelihood in the form of a suitable job.

He further said, we have to reframe the higher education structure and content along with making the institutions multidisciplinary and integrating private institutions. All universities must start an honours degree in the next two years. The industry should be involved in offering internships and apprenticeships to undergraduate students along with designing and drafting the curriculum. Teachers' accountability should be increased. NEP is designed with a learning outcome-based program that will benefit the students.
The workshop had 3 parallel sessions on the theme, Access, quality and future-readiness. After the brainstorming amongst the Vice-chancellors, the chairpersons of each panel have presented their recommendations. The one-day workshop succeeded in evaluating NEP policy with respect to their implementation along with quality, access and future readiness.
Prof. S.C. Sharma, The Director NAAC, Bangalore has delivered an introductory address. Prof. M.Kotresh, Registrar, Bangalore University welcomed the gathering. Over 30 Vice Chancellors from the Southern states including Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Lakshadweep were present in the program. There were representatives of various universities, Dean's and professors of Bangalore University and officers of NAAC have participated in the workshop.
