Taliban's new govt formation gets delayed

Kabul: The Taliban's new government formation is likely to get delayed as most of its leaders are camped in Kandahar.

Since negotiation among Taliban leaders has not yet been completed, the new government will take charge only after Friday prayers. It is almost certain that Haibatullah Akhundzada, the top leader of the Taliban, will head the new government.

The formation of the new government has begun after the US has withdrawn its troops from Kabul, ending two decades of war. The Taliban has promised to give representation to all ethnic groups in the Country. Meanwhile, women are demanding representation in the new government.

Under intense international scrutiny, the new government will be formed over its vow to rule Afghanistan with greater tolerance, especially on women’s rights.

India, which had established its first formal contact with the Taliban on Tuesday, has said that it is not aware of any details or nature of what kind of government could be formed in Afghanistan post-Taliban takeover.

In a routine ministry of external affairs press briefing, spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “We are not aware of any details or nature of what kind of government could be formed in Afghanistan. I have no update on our meeting (with Taliban).” Indian ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal met the head of Taliban’s political office, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, in Doha at the Indian mission on Tuesday.

Asked about further talks with the Taliban, Bagchi categorically stated that, “ India's prime concern is Afghanistan's territory should not be used for terror activity of any kind."
