Twitter engages services of Interim Chief Compliance Officer
New Delhi: The microblogging platform Twitter told Delhi High Court that make an offer of employment to a qualified candidate to fill Chief Compliance Officer position within eight weeks.
Meanwhile, Social media giant has engaged the services of the Interim Chief Compliance Officer as a contingent worker via a third-party contractor.
Twitter on Thursday submitted to Delhi High Court that it has addressed a communication on the appointment of Interim Chief Compliance Officer to MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology).
The social media giant also told the court that it will make its first compliance report public by July 11.
The microblogging platform told Delhi High Court that it'll, in good faith, make an offer of employment to a qualified candidate to fill Chief Compliance Officer position within 8 weeks.
In June, the government had given one last chance to Twitter to comply with the new IT rules, as the microblogging platform had not made immediate appointments of key personnel, mandated under the new guidelines that came into effect on May 26.
The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 has been framed in exercise of powers under section 87 (2) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and in supersession of the earlier Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules 2011.
Under the new rules, mandatory for platforms such as WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram to identify “originator” of “unlawful” messages. Also, social media networks are required to take down such messages within a specific time frame, set up grievance redressal mechanisms and assist the government agencies in the investigation.
