Kyiv: In the wake of the growing threat of war against Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called up reservists aged 18 to 60 for a maximum service of one year, according to Reuters and the BBC.
The new decision comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognising the independence of the separatist-controlled Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas area. Russia’s upper chamber of parliament approved the use of armed forces outside of the country.
Also, Ukraine urged its citizens to leave Russia "immediately", the country's foreign ministry announced on Wednesday. It said escalating Russian aggression against Ukraine could complicate consular assistance and urged citizens not to travel to Russia, AFP reports.
Ukraine’s security council approved plans to declare a state of national emergency, in response to the growing threat of a Russian invasion, reports news agency AFP. The measure, which must be formally approved by parliament, requires stepped-up document and vehicle checks, among other measures, the council’s secretary Oleksiy Danilov said.
Russia seems to be very closer to Ukraine border, though Russia claims that it has withdrawn the troops from the Ukraine border, satellite images have shown that Russia is just 20km from the Ukraine border.
