US welcomes Taliban for facilitating flight from Kabul
Washington: The US with help of Qatar facilitated the travel of 39 invited, 10 U.S. citizens and 11 Lawful Permanent Residents from Kabul on Friday.
The State Department confirmed that a Qatar Airways charter flight departed from Kabul with U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPRs) on-board. The State Department said the evacuation was the result of the Department’s regular and close engagement with our regional partners, particularly with Qatari authorities, who facilitated the flight.
Antony J. Blinken, Secretary Of State, said "I emphasized this with Foreign Minister Al-Thani during my travel to Doha this week, and I am grateful for his and his team’s dedicated and effective engagement."
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. The Secretary conveyed U.S. appreciation for Qatar’s help facilitating the travel of U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, and others from Kabul. Secretary Blinken also commended the Government of Qatar for its work to safely evacuate people from Afghanistan and thanked the Foreign Minister for hosting his visit earlier this week.
