Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022: Priyanka Gandhi releases 1st list of candidates, mother of Unnao rape victim gets ticket
In October, Priyanka Gandhi had said the party would give 40 per cent of its tickets to women in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra released the first list of 125 candidates on Thursday for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. The first list has 40 per cent women and 40 per cent youth candidates.
After releasing the first list, Priyanka Gandhi said, "Out of the total 125 candidates, 40 per cent are women and 40 per cent are the youth. With this historic initiative, we hope to bring in a new kind of politics in the sate."
"In the first list of 125 candidates for Uttar Pradesh polls, 50 candidates are women, including Asha Singh, mother of the Unnao rape victim. From Shahjahanpur, we have fielded Asha worker Poonam Pandey who led an agitation for a raise in honorarium."
In October, Priyanka Gandhi had said the party would give 40 per cent of its tickets to women in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
She said, "Women will fully participate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Parties think they can appease women by giving an LPG cylinder, Rs 2000."
Also, last month, Priyanka Gandhi launched the party’s manifesto for women for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls at a function in Lucknow. The highlight of the manifesto was promises including 40 per cent reservation for women in government jobs if her party is voted to power.
