Bengaluru: As India faces Sri Lanka in the first Test in Mohali, former Indian skipper and star batter Virat Kohli became the 12th Indian player to reach the milestone of 100 Test matches.

Kohli, one of the most successful Indian Test captains, made his Test debut against West Indies at Kingston, Jamaica, 11 years ago.

The Indian run-machine has amassed 7962 runs in 99 Tests at an astounding average of 50.39. Virat has hit 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries in the longest format of the game. The Delhi-based cricketer hit his first century against Australia in January 2012 at the Adelaide Oval. His highest score in an innings was 254* against South Africa. In that match, in which India won by an innings and 137 runs, he was awarded player of the match.

Highest score as Indian captain, Kohli slam unbeaten 254 against SA

Virat Kohli slammed an unbeaten 254 in 336 deliveries against South Africa in 2019 during the second test of the three-match test series. Kohli hit two sky-high sixes and 33 fours in this innings. In that match, in which India won by an innings and 137 runs, he was awarded player of the match.

Kohli thrashed Australian bowling during India’s tour of Australia in 2014/15. The Delhi batsman created havoc by amassing 692 runs, including four centuries. In the four-match test series, scored the highest, 169. His average was 86.50 in that series. In the first match, he scored 115 and 141 runs in the first and second innings.

Kohli is the fastest Indian skipper to reach 5000 runs.

When India played their first-ever day and night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata in 2019, Virat became the first Indian skipper to reach 5000 runs as a captain.
