137th Foundation Day: Sonia Gandhi calls out BJP for rewriting history, damaging democracy
In her Foundation Day address to party workers, Sonia Gandhi targetted the ruling BJP for its divisive ideologies and rewriting history to suit its political agenda.
New Delhi: Opposition Congress observed the 137th Foundation Day of the party under the leadership of interim president Sonia Gandhi at the AICC HQ on Tuesday.
In her Foundation Day address to party workers, Sonia Gandhi targetted the ruling BJP for its divisive ideologies and rewriting history to suit its political agenda.
Sonia Gandhi said, "They're rewriting history to give themselves a role they don't deserve. The finest traditions of our parliamentary democracy are being deliberately damaged. Congress will fight these destructive forces."
"Divisive ideologies anchored in hate and prejudice and which had no role whatsoever to play in our freedom movement now causing havoc on the secular fabric of our society."
She urged the party workers to rededicate themselves to the ideals, values and principles of the organisation that has been shaped, guided and inspired by some of the greatest, noblest and most selfless of Indians of the 20th Century.
The grand old party of India is celebrating its 137th anniversary a day after winning eight seats in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections. Aam Adami Party (AAP) won 14 of 35 municipal seats, with the BJP close behind at 12 seats.
