Meanwhile, fuel prices were kept unchanged for 27 consecutive days. Last month, the Central government had reduced the excise duty on Petrol and Diesel by Rs. 5 and Rs. 10. Subsequently, the Centre urged States to commensurately reduce VAT on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
Following the Centres' decision, BJP and Congress-ruled states reduced VAT on fuels to reduce the burden on common people.
