Fate of Imran Khan’s PTI Government will be decided today

Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan  is set to face the no-confidence vote in National Assembly on Sunday. If Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan fails to secure 172 seats in the 342-member National Assembly his tenure as Pakistan PM would be cut short.

It seems legendry Pakistan cricketer-turned-politician likely to join the big of the club of Pakistan politicians who failed to complete a full five-year term as his main coalition partner, the MQM, joined the opposition.

PM Imran Khan urged Tehreek-e-Insaf legislators to go to National Assembly today during the proceedings of no-confidence motion.

To unseat incumbent PM Imran Khan, the joint opposition has chalked out a formula for voting on the no-confidence motion against the PM scheduled to be held on Sunday and as per the plan or formula, the dissident PTI lawmakers will not cast their votes and they would cast only if the opposition falls short of the required number of votes to unseat the PM. The opposition claims that they have the required number of votes with them to oust the PM.

According to reports, the decision to ask dissident lawmakers not to vote was made to avoid the voting process becoming problematic, as well as any possible ruling by the Pakistan Supreme Court on this matter.

The government has petitioned the Supreme Court for an interpretation of Article 63-A, which deals with the disqualification of legislators.

According to the opposition's plan, disgruntled PTI members would be taken to Parliament House but will not vote, and their votes will only be cast if the Opposition falls short of the required number of votes to topple the existing prime minister. The Opposition will fulfil the required number with the votes of the coalition parties.

Without the votes of dissident PTI legislators, the Opposition currently has 177 votes, while the no-confidence resolution requires 172 votes to pass.
