Haryana Govt to send SDM Ayush Sinha on leave, orders probe into lathi-charge on farmers

Karnal: The Haryana Government decided to send SDM Ayush Sinha on leave, who recently caught on tape directing police to hit protesting farmers on their head, following a meeting with government officials and farm leaders on Saturday.

Also, the Haryana Government ordered a probe into the August 28 Bastara toll incident, which will be done by a retired High Court judge. The probe is to be completed in a month.

Additional Chief Secretary Devender Singh, who represented the Government of Haryana, said the deceased farmer Satish Kajal's two family members to be compensated with jobs at DC rate on sanctioned posts.

Former SDM Ayush Sinha, the 2018-batch IAS officer, was transferred out of Karnal and posted as additional secretary of Citizen Resources Information Department (CRID).\

"After discussions, we have collectively decided to call off the protest here (outside mini-secretariat)," Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union chief Gurnam Singh Charuni was quoted by ANI as saying.

The farmers held a mahapanchayat against police lathi-charge on farmers on August 28. Over 10 protesters were injured after the Haryana Police had lathi-charged a group of farmers disrupting traffic movement on a national highway near Karnal on August 28 while heading towards Karnal to protest against a BJP meeting.

DC Nishant Kumar Yadav, IG Mamta Singh and SP Gangaram Punia and other senior officers held talks with the protesters so that some positive solutions can be found.
