Imran Khan may go for early polls to avoid no-confidence vote

Lahore: With pressure is mounting on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to step down after he lost the majority in the National Assembly, Khan is contemplating dissolving the House to go for early elections.

With joint opposition is pressing for a no-confidence motion vote and House has taken up the notice for discussion on Thursday, Khan is trying to face save to avoid a trust vote. The sources close to him said that Pakistan Prime Minister is unlikely to give up his position and will bat till the last ball to bowl.

If joint opposition does not withdraw the no-confidence vote notice against him, he may dissolve the National Assembly to go for early elections, sources said.

"Talks are focused on one point – the joint opposition withdraws the no-trust motion against Khan and in return, he dissolves the National Assembly calling for fresh elections," the source said.

"The top man in the establishment may be a guarantor if the understanding (deal) between the opposition and the government reaches,” he added.

"If this deal is cut, the new elections will be held in August this year," he said, adding that since the opposition is not trusting Khan, the guarantor may ally its concerns.

No Prime Ministers in Pakistan completed full five years term in the office. Imran Khan was appointed as Priem Minister in 2018  The elections are due in 2023 for National Assembly.
