New Delhi:  Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued an advisory to Indian nationals because of uncertainties of the current situation in the Eastern Europe country.  

India today advised its citizens in Ukraine to consider leaving the country temporarily. "In view of uncertainties of the current situation in Ukraine, Indian nationals, particularly students whose stay not essential, may consider leaving temporarily," the Embassy of India in Kyiv said in a statement.

The embassy also requested Indian nationals to keep them informed on their whereabouts in Ukraine.

"Indian nationals are requested to keep the Embassy informed about the status of their presence in Ukraine to enable the Embassy to reach them where required," the statement said.

In the last few days, several countries are cutting back their diplomatic staff in Ukraine and have urged their citizens to leave the country.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi, assured Indians in Ukraine that the Indian government would provide all assistance required as the threat of a Russian invasion looms large in the country. 

Amid frantic diplomacy to try and avert conflict in Ukraine, the United States extended a $1 billion sovereign loan guarantee to Ukraine, as the build-up of Russian troops at the country’s borders weighs on its economy, according to Al Jazeera. 

Russia’s State Duma lower house of parliament voted to appeal to President Vladimir Putin to recognise two Russian-backed breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine as independent.
