Indian students thank govt for allowing pets from Ukraine

Kyiv: Among thousands of Indian nationals who visited Ukraine for various reasons including for higher studies, are now stranded in the war-ravaged country, several of them have raised pets during their stay.

These people were worried about their pets’ safety when the Indian government issued an advisory to all citizens to leave Ukraine immediately.

But those who had raised the pets, including dogs and cats, were simply not in the mood to leave their pets in a war-torn country at the mercy of God.

Therefore, they made a fervent appeal to the government of India to allow them to bring their pets along to India. Their appeal was finally heard by the government of India that allowed the Indian nationals to carry their pets along with them back to India.

It is said that it was the intervention of BJP MP Maneka Gandhi who is also known as an animal rights activist, that forced the government to let the owners bring their pets.

It all started when one of the students of India, Rishabh Kaushik refused to fly to India without his pet dog. He urged the government of India to let him and many other people like him bring their pets to their homes as they have raised their pets with immense love.

Meanwhile, with the permission given, many students were seen with their pet animals at Poland's borders when they reached the neighbouring country to fly back to India.

With their pets finally, with them, the owners are heaving a sigh of relief as they no longer worry about their pets’ safety.

“ We are thankful to the government of India, mainly Maneka Gandhi for showing this kind gesture”, the students said.
