Chennai: Madras High Court granted bail to ex-AIADMK minister D Jayakumar on Thursday in the DMK cadre assault case.
Also, the court directed him to stay in Trichy for two weeks and report before Cantonment PS on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He was arrested on charges of attacking a DMK cadre at a polling booth in the recently held urban local body poll voting.
Hundreds of AIADMK party workers staged a protest in Coimbatore and other parts of Tamil Nadu condemning the arrest of former minister D Jayakumar. Members of the AIADMK party workers staged a protest in all the district headquarters of Tamil Nadu on Monday, condemning the arrest of the leader.
In Coimbatore, the party cadres hit the road and raised slogans against the DMK party. Jayakumar was arrested on Monday night by the Chennai police on the charges of assaulting a DMK party worker, forcing him to remove his shirt, and paraded him naked in full public view during the recently held local body elections.
The protesters termed the arrest of the AIADMK leader as an act of political revenge by the DMK government. They also protested against alleged malpractices in the recent elections.
