IPL2021: Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets

Delhi juggernaut continued from the first leg as they thumped the Sunrises from Hyderabad who are struggling with their familiar woes.

After winning the toss, Williamson had no hesitation in batting first. In the absence of Bairstow, Saha opened the batting along with Warner. The former captain looked all at sea on the three deliveries he faced before he top-edged a back of length delivery in the air towards point. Saha smoked a couple of boundaries and a six but got out mistiming a pull. Kane Williamson wasn't his usual self in this innings as he failed multiple times to run the ball to the third man to get off strike. This put a lot of pressure on him which made him take the risky option of going over the top one too many times.

As good as their bowling was, their fielding was no match from the capitals. They dropped three catches off Williamson, yes three, and caught him the fourth. Once he was gone, there was no batter that came in looked like threatening. Abdul samad and Rashid Khan tried to give some impetus to the innings, but were tied down by the tight lines and hard lengths from the Capitals bowlers. All the bowlers were pretty decent with the ball except Ashwin, who had an off day.

But the star of the game was Anrich Nortje. After missing the first leg of the tournament due to injury, the South African Speedster sent down thunderbolts from one end and made the batters jump and hop inside the crease. After getting rid of Warner, he came back for his second spell and broke the back of Sunrises by trapping Kedar Jadhav right in front. His partner in crime, KG Rabada, too piled on the misery for Sunrises as he kept getting wickets whenever he came on to bowl.

Chasing a modest target of 135, the Delhi duo - Shikhar Dhawan and Prithivi Shaw wasted no time to get going. Even though Shaw was out for 11, he had thrashed two boundaries in his short stay, sending out a clear message to the Sunrises about their approach in this innings. Coming in at No.3 Shreyas Iyer had a point to prove. After missing out on a world cup spot due to lack of cricket under his belt, he looked determined to show the selectors how wrong they were. He along with Dhawan, batted with so much ease, even Rashid Khan couldn't trouble them.

Dhawan eventually got out to Rashid trying to slog sweep him once more after successfully doing so previously, but was caught on the boundary at deep square. Then came the captain Rishab pant, who came down the wicket and had a wild swing at the very first ball, giving new meaning to the term 'captain's innings'.

Hyderabad bowlers had an awful strategy with the bowl to Pant, to keep bowling short deliveries one after another, and kept getting pulled for boundaries. They didn't seem to have a plan B once the short stuff didn't work. Pant made 35 quick runs and Iyer made a well compiled 47, both unbeaten, to take Delhi to a comfortable victory.

Sunrises need some serious work done, in all departments really, to even start to dream about making it to the playoffs.

Injury alert: Marcus Stoinis hurt his hamstring and walked off the field after bowling only seven deliveries in the game.
