Manipur Assembly Elections 2002: Voting 27.34 per cent till 11 AM
Key candidates in the fray are -CM N Biren Singh from Heingang, Speaker Y Khemchand Singh from Singjamei, Dy CM Yumnam Joykumar Singh from Uripok and state Congress chief N Lokesh Singh from Nambol.
Imphal: Voting has begun for the first phase of Assembly Elections in Manipur on Monday. The fate of 173 candidates in 38 constituencies in the fray will be sealed on Monday. Voters turnout was 27.34 per cent till 11 am in the first phase.
Key candidates in the fray are -CM N Biren Singh from Heingang, Speaker Y Khemchand Singh from Singjamei, Dy CM Yumnam Joykumar Singh from Uripok and state Congress chief N Lokesh Singh from Nambol.
CM and BJP candidate from Heingang, N Biren Singh cast his vote at Shrivan High School in Imphal. He said, "I'm expecting that 75 per cent of people of my constituency will vote for BJP and me. BJP is expecting at least 30 out of 38 seats in the first phase. People of Manipur like PM Modi".
Elections will be held in Manipur from 28 February to 5 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 10 March 2022.
The previous assembly elections were held in March 2017. After the election, a coalition of Bharatiya Janata Party, National People's Party, Naga People's Front and Lok Janshakti Party formed the state government, with N. Biren Singh becoming Chief Minister.
