Omicron: Kejriwal requests PM to cancel international flights
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Prime Minister to cancel the International flights to prevent the spreading of new variants of Omicron.
“I have requested Hon’ble PM to immediately stop flights from those countries which are affected by new variant. Any delay could be very harmful”, Mr. Kejriwal tweeted.
“Our country has fought a tough fight against Corona for the last one and half years. With great difficulty and due to the selfless service of the millions of our Covid warriors, our country has recovered from Corona”,Mr. Kejriwal mentioned.
“We should do everything possible to prevent the new variant of concern, recently recognized by WHO, from entering India. A number of countries, including the European Union, have suspended travel to the affected regions. I urge you to stop flights from these regions with immediate effect. Any delay in this regard may prove harmful if any affected person enters India”. Mr. Kejriwal requested the Prime Minister.
The Delhi Chief Minister also shared a post from news agency ANI on a report that a 39-year-old man, who returned from South Africa, tested positive for COVID-19 in Chandigarh. Two people he came in contact with also contracted the virus. The samples will be sent for genome sequencing.
Mr Kejriwal will chair meeting with officials regarding the preparedness of hospitals in the city amid the new variant scare. Also, this is not the first time that he has raised the issue of a ban on flights with the Prime Minister
