Post claiming Arvind Kejriwal his decision to resign as Delhi CM to support wrestlers’ protest is false; Details Inside
New Delhi, June 1 (Abhinav Gupta / Pratyush Ranjan PTI Fact Check): A Twitter user shared a photo of Arvind Kejriwal alongside women wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat and claimed that he decided to resign as Delhi CM in solidarity with the protesting wrestlers. The user further claimed that Kejriwal had said he would leave the country if the government didn’t accept the demands of the wrestlers. The PTI Fact Check Desk found in its investigation that Kejriwal did not make any such statement. The statement was tweeted by a parody Twitter handle of the Aam Aadmi Party Rajasthan. The social media post was shared with a false claim.
Several top wrestlers of the country have been protesting against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, demanding his arrest on charges of sexual harassment of some women athletes. Several political leaders, including Kejriwal, supported the wrestlers and visited Jantar Mantar, where the protesters camped from April 23 till May 28, when Delhi Police cleared the site.

Delhi BJP leader Krishnan Gahlot shared a photo of Arvind Kejriwal standing alongside women wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat and claimed that he had announced to resign as Delhi CM in solidarity with the protesting wrestlers. The user further claimed that Kejriwal had announced they to leave the country if the government didn’t accept the demands of the protesting wrestlers.
“Breaking पहलवानों के समर्थन में केजरीवाल देंगे दिल्ली के CM पद से इस्तीफा। फिर भी अगर सरकार नहीं मानी तो देश छोड़ कर भी जा सकते है। #BREAKING #AAP,” read the May 30 post, which has garnered over 1 million views and 24,000 likes.
