SC takes suo motu cognizance of Dhanbad Judge's death case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Friday took suo motu cognizance of the alleged killing of Additional District Judge from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. 

A bench headed by CJI N V Ramana took suo motu cognizance on the issue and said that it has come across several instances of alleged attack on many judicial officers, lawyers inside and outside the court.

The apex court said that this court wants to address the safety and security of judicial officers in the country.

Dhanbad Additional Sessions Judge Uttam Anand, who was on a morning walk, was killed under suspicious circumstances after an autorickshaw rammed into him on Thursday.

The police have registered a case of murder on suspicion of foul play in the judge’s death. An SIT has been formed to investigate the case. The investigators are questioning several people. They are going through sensitive cases the now-deceased judge had handled, according to reports.
