Chennai: The DMK led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and its allies registered a landslide victory in the urban local bodies elections. DMK has won all 21 city corporations and 128 out of the 138 municipalities in the state.

Out of 200 wards in the Greater Chennai Corporation, the ruling DMK won 153 wards in the corporation. Opposition AIADMK won only 15 wards and Congress won 13 wards.

Besides the ruling party has also won 400 out of 489 town panchayats. The ruling party has bagged 946 wards in the corporations, 2360 seats in municipalities and 4388 seats in town panchayats. It was a historic win to the ruling party, said poll analysts in the state. According to the latest report, the DMK led alliance won 12,800 plus wards combining city corporations, town panchayats and city municipalities.

The AIADMK came with second winning over 2000 wards. Interestingly, BJP is trying to make footprints in the state has bagged 22 seats in city municipal corporations, 56 in municipalities and 230 seats in town panchayats. Congress came by fourth place by winning 73 wards in corporations, 151 seats in municipal wards and 368 seats in town panchayats.

The  Left parties, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi and Indiya Jananayaga Katchi have also won, pushing the DMK front’s tally beyond the two-thirds mark. The BJP expressed satisfaction over the Tamil Tamil urban civic election 2022 results, Addressing a press conference, state BJP president K Annamalai said that the party has emerged as the third party in the state. He thanked the leaders for working hard for the victory of the saffron party candidates.

The saffron party, which contest the TN urban civic polls alone, outperformed the regional outfits like the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, PMK, Naam Tamizhar Katchi, and the Vijayakanth-led Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

AIADMK  performed very badly in the civic body polls and lost its strongholds in western Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore, Erode and Salem. Notably, the AIADMK candidate lost the elections in Edappadi, the home constituency of former CM K Palaniswami.

Stalin calls cadres to shows humbleness: After the victory, M.K. Stalin in a speech urged his cadres to remain humble. “I have said this earlier too… When people gift us massive victories, our work after that should be such that those who did not vote for us should regret not voting for us. I assume that the same has happened now with these results,” Chief Minister said.

A transwoman, Ra Ganga won a DMK ticket from ward 38 of Vellore Municipal Corporation. In Madurai district’s Sozhavandhan Town Panchayat, Ma Vallimayil and her son Ma Maruthupandiyan won from wards 13 and 8 respectively. Both were independents.
