Union Budget: 5G mobile services by 2022
"Our vision is that all villages and their residents should have the same access to e-services, communication facilities, and digital resources as urban areas and their residents", says Nirmala Sitharaman
Auctioning of 5G mobile service will help the growth of job opportunities in the country. Required spectrum auction will be held in 2022 for 5 mobile services by private telecom providers.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that a scheme for design-led manufacturing will be launched to build a strong ecosystem for 5G as part of the Production Linked Incentive Scheme.
“To enable affordable broadband and mobile service proliferation in rural and remote areas, five per cent of annual collections under the Universal Service Obligation Fund will be allocated. This will promote research and development and commercialization of technologies and solutions”, she pointed out.
“Our vision is that all villages and their residents should have the same access to e-services, communication facilities, and digital resources as urban areas and their residents. The contracts for laying optical fibre in all villages, including remote areas, will be awarded under the Bharatnet project through PPP in 2022-23”, said Nirmala Sitharaman.
This project will be completed by 2025. Measures will be taken to enable better and more efficient use of optical fibre in the country.
