Bengaluru: The famous Bengaluru International Film Festival will get underway on Wednesday with the festival ready to show over 200 films from different countries.

The event, which remains open for the people till March 10, will display some 40 international films on OTT platform for viewers.

These films will be exhibited at three different movie halls of the State capital. PVR Cinemas-Orion Mall in Rajajinagar, Kalavidara Sangha in Chamrajpet and Suchitra Cine Academy in Banashankari II Stage.

Speaking to media persons, H. N. Narahari Rao, the artistic director of the event said that they will be showing five films on Friday, Saturday and Sunday while four movies will be exhibited on other days. This time, the intervals between each screening have been extended to 40 minutes.

Rao meanwhile said that the organizers had a limited time of around a month to hold the event after Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai permitted it.

He said that they want the event to be simpler yet elegant without spending too much money.

He said that additional categories of films have been included in the list to celebrate 75 years of Indian Independence.

“ We will also be celebrating five decades of Tulu cinema. We will have a special screening of the Kannada film Vasanta Sena released in 1941.

It may be noted that the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations has finally recognised BiFFes as an international film festival this year. During the event, a special tribute will be paid to Kannada film star Puneet Rajkumar who recently died of a heart attack in Bengaluru.  Three of his films, Jackie, Bettada Hoovu and Prithvi will be shown, Rao said.
