Emma Raducanu new US Open tennis champion, didn't drop a single set in tournament

New York: British tennis player Emma Raducanu, the 18-year-old, defeated Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets to win the US Open Tennis 2021 finals on Sunday.

Emma will take home the US Open trophy, and a winner's cheque of $2.5m - or £1.8m. This is the first Grand Slam win for Emma Raducanu.

In the final, she defeated 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez to become the first British woman to win a major singles title since Virginia Wade at Wimbledon in 1977. Emma did so without losing a set throughout the tournament.

Ranked No. 338 in the world, she reached the fourth round on her major debut with a wildcard into the main draw for the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. This helped her to access the qualifying competition for the 2021 US Open in August; after qualifying for the main draw, she went on to become the first qualifier, male or female, to reach and win a major single final.
