Rishabh Pant tests positive for Covid-19 in England

New Delhi: Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has tested positive for coronavirus in England, according to media reports.

Without the mask on, Pant was recently seen with his friends at the Wembley Stadium in London during a Euro 2020 football match between England and Germany.

The Indian squad was on break after the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton.

The National Health Service in England has been conducting Covid tests on the Indian players.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla confirmed to news agency ANI saying, " One player has been found (COVID) positive & he was asymptomatic. He was staying with his relative. He's in isolation & doing well. He tested +ve 8 days before so only two days of quarantine left. After that, he'll be tested again."

Pant, who is tested positive, will not travel to Durham, where the team is set to play a practice match ahead of the five-match Test series against England. Emirates Riverside will host a County Championship XI v India in a three-day behind closed doors warm-up game starting on July 20 ahead of the five-match Test series against England.

The five Tests will be played at Trent Bridge, Lord's, Headingley, The Oval and Old Trafford.

Pant made his T20 International debut for India in January 2017, his Test debut in August 2018, and his One Day International debut in October 2018. In January 2019, Pant was named the ICC Emerging Player of the Year at the 2019 ICC awards. In February 2021, Pant was named the Men's Player of the Month in the first edition of the ICC Player of the Month Awards.
