India-England 5th test match at Old Trafford called off amid COVID scare
London: After team India head coach Ravi Shastri and Assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar tested positive for Covid-19 the fifth test match between India and England has been called off.
Virat Kohli and team had to cancel their final practice session on Thursday and were forced into isolation awaiting test results. The players have been advised to remain in their respective rooms.
Ravi Shastri is in isolation and will undergo quarantine of 14 days after testing positive for Covid Saturday during the fourth Test against England at The Oval.
England Cricket Board (ECB) released a statement confirming the cancellation of the 5th test match.
"Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled. Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team."
Also, the Board apologised fans and partners for the disappointment. "We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many."
India is leading the five-match test series by 2-1.
