The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) called upon the Bangladesh government to take swift action to bring an end to the violence following attacks against minorities.
Bengaluru: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) called upon the Bangladesh government to take swift action to bring an end to the violence following attacks against minorities.
Two Vaishnava devotees, Pranta Chandra das, and Jatan Chandra Saha were allegedly murdered during attacks by radical extremists on October 13.
ISKCON claimed that attacks continued until October 15th, 2021, with innumerable homes, shops, puja pandals, and temples being looted, burned, and destroyed. There are currently 6 to 10 fatalities reported in various media outlets, while many more people have sustained injuries or been hospitalized, ISKCON claimed in its statement.
According to reports, there was an alleged blasphemous incident at a Durga Puja pandal in Cumilla, about 100 km south-east of Dhaka, which has led to attacks on temples and pandals.
ISKCON thanked for the recent statements of support for the Hindu community from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. ISKCON requested tangible steps to ensure the long-term safety and well-being of all Bangladeshi citizens. That includes to:
1. Bring to justice the perpetrators of these recent terrible crimes. The criminals behind these murderous attacks must be held accountable and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
2. Take immediate, tangible, and substantial steps to provide security to minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists.
