Weekend curfew doesn’t help to reduce Covid cases: Expert Committee
Following requests from the public, the government has decided to lift the weekend curfew after consultations with experts. But the decision will be reconsidered after observing the percentage of hospitalization of the positive patients.
Bengaluru: Covid technical advisory committee has opinioned that weekend curfew does not help to bring down Covid cases across the state.
During the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday, the committee has observed that there is not much impact from weekend curfew in reducing Covid cases and positivity rate. The hospitalization ratio is between 5 to 6 % though an increase in positivity rate.

Key highlights of Chief Minister’s meeting with Covid technical advisory committee.
- Total active Covid cases in the state as on January 20, 2022, is 2,93,231. In which 2.86 lakh people are in home isolation.
- Total 5344 people are hospitalized, of which 340 are in ICU and 127 in ventilator support.
- Number of Covid cases increased in Hassan, Tumkakuru, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
- The positivity rate is 19.94%.
- Children positivity rate is 8% and the adult positivity rate is 16.57.
- Special care has been taken to children who are hospitalized.
- Total 243 oxygen generating plants are sanctioned to the state in which 225 plants are functioning.
- Oxygen plants in all district hospitals, 113 Taluk hospitals are functioning.
- Covid cases are doubling for every three days. Average 2.6 people get infected from one positive patient.
- More number of medical and paramedical personnel gets infected.
- Including Bengaluru Urban district, special attention has been taken to regulate Covid cases across the state.
- There is not much impact from weekend curfew in reducing Covid cases and positivity rate. The hospitalization ratio is between 5 to 6 % though an increase in positivity rate.

- Night curfew will be continued as usual timings, 10 AM to 5 PM, all seven days a week.
