Tokyo Olympics: Lovlina Borgohain ends campaign with Bronze medal
Tokyo: Pugilist Lovlina Borgohain lost against Turkey's Busenaz Surmeneli in Women's Welter Weight 64-69kg Semifinal match at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday. Lovlina ended her campaign with a Bronze medal.
Lovlina Borgohain was beaten in a unanimous decision by Busenaz Surmeneli.
Lovlina becomes the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal. She adds this bronze medal to her tally of four bronze medals won at World and Asian Championships.
Lovlina started the first round well but Busenaz Surmeneli fought back to win the first round unanimously. Lovlina started much better in the second round but Surmeneli fought back as the round progressed. Busenaz Surmeneli masters the third round as well and wins the bout 5-0.
Lovlina dedicated her medal to the country. She thanked people of the country and Assam who prayed for her. Also she thanked coaches and supporters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Lovlina Borgohain and congratulated her on winning Bronze. The prime minister told her that her win is a testimony to talent and tenacity of our Nari Shakti. He also said that her success is a matter of immense pride for every Indian, especially for Assam and the Northeast.
